About redmarker

How it started

It started at our dining table last Christmas. I had surplus annual leave and no fixed plans, just a restless urge to keep busy.

Every evening, worksheets piled up — first at our dining table, then in tutoring centres we spoke to. Page after page, answer after answer. Forty-five minutes of tedious checking that could have been spent on teaching.

On a whim, I snapped a photo of a worksheet and fed it to an AI model to see if it could spot the wrong answers. It could. What started as a family experiment became an obsession — and then a product built for centres that mark at scale. The redmarker app was born from that lightbulb moment.

Centres should spend tutor time on teaching and feedback — not hunting for ticks on every drill sheet.

If manual marking is eating your evenings, we built redmarker for you.

Who built it

Gary Smith

Founder, redmarker app

Gary is a software developer who built redmarker after watching hours disappear to manual worksheet checking — first at home, then across tutoring centres he piloted with.

The product focus is practical edtech for tutoring centres and maths programmes: fast, trustworthy marking for paper drills (Kumon-style sheets, tutor homework, and centre practice) — not classroom management suites or compliance workflows.

  • Hands-on builder of the redmarker maths marking pipeline (capture, OCR, answer checking)
  • Pilot partner with UK tutoring centres — every feature tested on real marking volume
  • Publishes research-backed guides on the redmarker blog for centre managers and tutors

Education & Edtech Focus

Millions of handwritten maths worksheets are still marked with a pen each week — especially in tutoring centres running drill-based programmes. We reduce that friction so tutors teach instead of tallying ticks.

We design for privacy-conscious centres — worksheet photos are processed to return marks and feedback, with clear retention rules in our privacy policy. The goal is dependable marking that fits how maths practice already happens on paper.
